The Daily Cichlid

I got into the hobby of fish keeping a year ago with a free 15 gallon bow front Aquarium with a hood and light. by the time I was done I had bought 500 bucks worth of stuff for it all retail prices! when I wanted to upgrade to a bigger aquarium I decided that there has to be a better way and there was! I managed to save craploads of money by spending a little extra effort.

I made pretty much every mistake in the book that new aquarium owners can make, from not quarantining fish bought from unreliable sources to overstocking. From the first day I was able to get my first few fish and saw my fish enjoying the habitat I created for them I was hooked and although I have made mistakes along the way, the experience of making all these mistakes was very useful. I am miles ahead of where I was and hope to share my knowledge that is based on scientific and biological facts and not on myths and old wives tales which seem to create nothing but confusion and contradiction on fish forums.

I now run 2 tanks:

a 20 gallon community aquarium with 1 female Ram named Ms. Fancy pants, 1 Flame Gourami named sara, 3 Guppies - Julian, Ricky and Conky, 1 submissive Lemon Cichlid named Baby, and 3 Emerald Cories (fuck goofs) or Cory, Trever and Jacob. yes I am also a huge fan of TPB and some of our fish are named after the characters.

I'm running a 30 gallon Cichlid tank with 2 Brichardi or Fairy Cichlids, Sam and Dean named after sam and dean windchester on supernatural, and 1 Lemon Cichlid named Mr. Hawking because he was the smartest one out of the bunch lol.
